Politician (SPD). He has been Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection since 2013. From 1989 to 1999, Lange was a member of the Rems-Murr district parliament, and from 1996 to 1999 he was chairman of his district parliamentary group.
Since 1998, he has been a member of the German Bundestag. From 2002 to 2013, he was spokesman for the Baden-Württemberg state group in the SPD parliamentary group and from 2002 to 2013 spokesman for the reformoriented Berlin network. From 2005 to 2007 he was deputy spokesman of the parliamentary group "Economy and Technology" and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the subcommittee "ERP-Wirtschaftspläne" of the Bundestag committee for economy and technology as well as 2006/2007 medium-sized business representative for the trade of the SPD parliamentary group.
From 2007 to 2013 he was parliamentary managing director of the SPD parliamentary group. In the Merkel III cabinet from 2013 to 2017 he was already Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection and was reappointed to this office in the Merkel IV cabinet in March 2018. Having been Deputy Chairman since 1998, he has been Chairman of the German-Portuguese Parliamentary Group since 2002. Since 2006 he has been Deputy Chairman of the Israel Discussion Group of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
