Is a German career diplomat. He began his professional career as a corporate lawyer and entered the diplomatic corps in 2003. He is currently the Deputy Director of Parliament and Cabinet Affairs after he was Deputy Head of Division in charge of the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union at the German Foreign Office in Berlin. In previous postings, he served at the German Embassy in Beijing (2012-2015) and as a senior foreign policy adviser in the German Bundestag (2010-2012). He was the Deputy Director of the public diplomacy section of the German Embassy in Washington DC from 2006-2009. After graduating from the German Diplomatic Academy, he served as the desk officer in charge of readmission policy in the German Foreign Office from 2004-2006.
Dr. Schulze Zumkley studied international law and languages at the University of Passau and King’s College London. He graduated from Bayerische Julius-Maximilians Universität Würzburg and received a doctoral degree in international and European law from the University of Potsdam.
He is an alumnus of the American Council on Germany (ACG), the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation, the Munich Security Conference Young Leaders (MSC YL) and of the Körber Foundation’s Netzwerk Außenpolitik (KNA). He pursued his interest in strategic thinking as an associate of the Stiftung Neue Verantwortung in 2010/2011, publishing a policy brief on strategy tools for foreign policy. Dr. Schulze Zumkley is the author of various articles and book reviews.
