One of America's first venture capitalists. Founder of Sutter Hill Ventures in Palo Alto, California. From 1981 to 1986, served as President and Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. In 1986, became the head of the world's largest source of multilateral development grant assistance, the United Nations Development Program. Chairman of World Affairs Council of Northern California and serves on the boards of the Institute of International Studies at Stanford University and Population Action International. Has also served on the boards of InstiMe of International Education and Yale University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the President's Council on International Activities at Yale University. Member Hoover Institution Board of Overseers. Founder and managing director, Draper International venture capital firm.
