Is Executive Chairman and former CEO (1998-2014) of a privately owned pulp and paper distribution business with global operations, Central National-Gottesman Inc. He and his wife have been involved in philanthropic activities at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University since its founding in 2000, as well as with various organizations in the New York City community.
He serves as a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the American Museum of Natural History, as a Director of the National Book Foundation (sponsor of the National Book Award) and chair of its investment committee and as a Director and member of the Executive Committee of the 92nd St. Y, a nonprofit cultural and community center. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Harvard Committee on University Resources, the Executive Committee for the Harvard University Capital Campaign, and the Advisory Board of the LSU Energy Law Center. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2007 and serves as a member of the Academy's Trust and the Development and Public Relations Committee.
