Was a Pakistani banker and philanthropist. Abedi was involved in fraud in the scandalous Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) which he founded in 1972. Beginning his career in 1946 with Habib Bank before independence of Pakistan, he brought about significant changes in Pakistan's banking culture when he founded the United Bank Ltd (UBL) in 1959 in Karachi.
