Andersen, Nils S. - from Denmark

Started his career as a controller with Nordic Sugar in 1982. He soon switched to the Carlsberg brewery group where he held a number of market-focused positions before taking on responsibilities as CEO of breweries in Spain and Germany. After having worked outside of Carlsberg for a two year period as member of the executive board of HERO in Switzerland, he returned in 1999.
As Executive Vice President and later CEO for the Carlsberg Group, Nils S. Andersen led a number of acquisitions and market entries and headed a number of other group-wide initiatives which turned around the financial performance of the group and strengthened its global position significantly.
He also prepared Carlsberg for the takeover of Scottish & Newcastle before taking up the position of CEO of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group in 2007. In the coming years, he spearheaded a transformation process which led to a more focused portfolio, a leaner organisation and increasing competitiveness for the group’s businesses. During Nils S. Andersen’s leadership, the Group has also increased its transparency and communication with stakeholders.
