Political scientist who is committed to German-American understanding. Lindemann studied Political Science, International Relations and International Economics at the Universities of Tübingen, Berlin, Bonn, the University of Aberdeen and Princeton University, New Jersey. She earned her doctorate in philosophy.

She was a scholarship holder of the Dräger Foundation at Harvard University, Cambridge and until 1985 Senior Research Fellow at the Research Institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy, Bonn. She was a consultant to the German UN delegation in New York several times and represented the German Marshall Fund of the United States in Europe. She also taught at the Federal Academy of Public Administration in Bonn. From 1981 to 1986 Lindemann was Program Director and from 1986 to 2010 Executive Vice President of Atlantik-Brücke e.V. in Bonn and Berlin.

Since 2011, she has been co-founder (with Walther Leisler Kiep) and executive vice-chairwoman of the Atlantik Forum e.V. (renamed Global Bridges e.V. in 2012) and Executive Chairwoman since 2016.

In 1990, she founded the Youth for Understanding Foundation in Frankfurt am Main and has been its chairman ever since.
