Is a German diplomat and was State Secretary at the Federal Foreign Office from 2008 to 2011. From August 2011 to April 2014 he was German Ambassador in Washington. In April 2014 he moved to London. His successor in Washington is Peter Wittig. His term of office in London ended in January 2018.

From July 2007 to June 2008, Ministerial Director Ammon was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to France. During this time, according to research by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he is said to have opened black money accounts in order to be able to channel funds past the social security system.

On 2 August 2008 Peter Ammon was appointed State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office (StS-A) by Foreign Minister Steinmeier, succeeding Georg Boomgaarden. In August 2011 Ammon was appointed German Ambassador in Washington as successor to Klaus Scharioth. From April 2014 to January 2018 he was German Ambassador in London. (Translate)
