From January 2014 he was a civil servant Secretary of State in the Federal Chancellery and Commissioner for the Federal Intelligence Services. He retired in March 2018. From March 2019 until probably November 2019, Fritsche worked for the Austrian Federal Government as an advisor to the Ministry of the Interior on the restructuring of the intelligence service. From January 2014 to March 2018 he was State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery. There he held the newly created office of Commissioner for the Federal Intelligence Services and could thus be regarded as the highest ranking civil servant for internal security in the Confederation.
