Studied in Yale School of Law 1853-54 and in the law office of Arnold, Larned & Lay in Chicago 1854-56, began the practice of law there independently April 1, 1856, was in association with Edward Hough ton, '52, for a short time, and on December 1, 1856, formed a partnership with Hasbrouck Davis under firm name of Davis & Baldwin, continued in that connection until October, 1857, and after several months of independent practice went abroad. Practiced law in Worcester, Mass, 1858-1861, in partnership with his brother-in-law, Dwight Foster, under the name of Foster & Baldwin, in November, 1861, entered United States Army as Adjutant of 15th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteers, and saw action at siege of Yorktown and Fair Oaks.

Born April 24, 1832, in New Haven, Conn. Died January 23, 1930, in Vevey, Switzerland.
