Murray, J. R. - from Canada

Between 1941 and 1945, he served as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy. He worked for the Department of External Affairs as a Foreign Service Officer at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C., from 1945-1951. Then, in 1951, he joined the HBC Fur Sales Department in Montreal.
He transferred to HBC Fur Sales Incorporated in New York City in 1952 and became president of the company a year later. In July 1955, Murray became the general manager for HBC in Canada and moved to Winnipeg. Four years later, he became managing director of the Canadian Committee.
Between 1959 and 1972 he was also vice chairman of Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Co., Ltd. In 1970, he sat as one of five members of the Executive Committee. Murray retired from the Hudson's Bay Company in 1972. He was a commissioner in the Foreign Investment Review Agency, Ottawa, from 1974-1975 and was the president of the Federal Business Development Bank in 1975. J.R. Murray passed away in 1998.
